Mountainside Local Schools Information
Mountainside has an excellent elementary school system. Deerfield School,
grades K-8, has been serving the community's children for many years. The Borough knows
that a strong partnership between the schools and community is essential. Mountainside
parents, teachers and school administrators work together to ensure that the
community provides its students with an excellent academic program. Deerfield
School offers a cognitively oriented program with emphasis on language development.
Identified areas are communication, cognitive skills, social adaptive skills,
self-help skills & motor skills.
Mountainside high school aged students attend Governor Livingston High School
in nearby Berkeley Heights. Governor Livingston is a comprehensive four year
school which consistently scores exceptionally high on the state HSPA exam.
Fifteen Advanced Placement courses are offered in Biology, Calculus
AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Computer Science A, Economics, English Language,
English Literature, European History, French, Physics C, Spanish Language,
Statistics, Studio Art, and United States History. Ninety-six percent of graduating
seniors go on to four year colleges. Governor
Livingston is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and
Secondary
Schools and the New Jersey Department of Education.
